Acupuncture Treatment – FAQ
What is Community Style Acupuncture?
WHA offers community acupuncture treatment on a sliding scale. This is how acupuncture is practiced traditionally in Asia with several patients resting together at the same time. We feel in this way we are able to reach more people and also people can afford a full course of treatment. Our scale is $20-40 ($30-$50 for the initial visit) and the patient determines what they will choose to pay based on what works for their budget (Schedule an Appointment).
The purpose of our sliding scale is so that you can come in often enough to really get better and stay better! We understand that everyone’s situation is different, and our primary goal is to make acupuncture available to you. Acupuncture treatment usually requires a commitment; our sliding scale is offered so that you can make that commitment more easily. It makes no difference to us what you pay on our scale we want you to be able to come in often enough to get better.
If you have questions about acupuncture or what it’s like to get treated (and many people do), consider downloading a free copy of the book Why Did You Put That Needle There? by Andy Wegman of Manchester Acupuncture Studio. How long do I have to see an Acupuncturist for?
Acupuncture treatment is one of the oldest, most commonly used systems of healing in the world. It is simple, safe, and sustainable. Acupuncture Treatment works (Licensed Acupuncturist Elk Grove Village)!
Research in the United States (as well as thousands of years of tradition in Asia) has shown that acupuncture treatment is most effective when it is done frequently and regularly. Once a week is usually the minimum required to make progress on any kind of health problem.
Acupuncture treatment does not need to be expensive to be effective!
* Acupuncture treatment is a process. Every now and then, acupuncture will act like a “miracle cure,” and a person will have all of their symptoms disappear after only one treatment- but that is a rare event. Acupuncture treatment works by stimulating the body’s own self healing mechanisms; it is gentle and safe and usually gradual. Almost everyone who gets acupuncture will need a series of treatments to get good results, which is one big reason we have a sliding scale. If you don’t come in often enough or long enough acupuncture probably won’t work for you. Your acupuncturist will suggest a treatment plan for you on your first visit.
How does Acupuncture Treatment work?
There are many theories about how acupuncture treatment helps. One chief view is that acupuncture brings your body into balance so that it can heal itself. This is one reason why people report many benefits besides the relief of their initial complaint. Additionally, acupuncture treatment is a preventative medicine; when the patient comes consistently, future health problems are thwarted (Acupuncture Elk Grove Village).
How will I know if Acupuncture Treatment is working?
You’ll know that your treatments are working because your you will see many improvements in areas such as: digestion, sleep, energy, mood, immunity, bath room habits, menstrual cycles, etc.
Also you can expect to notice changes in frequency, duration, and intensity of your main complaint. When frequency becomes less duration shorter, and reduction in intensity you’ll know its working (Patient Testimonials).

What is Herbal Medicine?
An herbal formula may be recommended to you by your Acupuncturist to enhance your acupuncture treatments between sessions. Acupuncture treatment is sometimes seen as the quick fix while herbs will produce the lasting effects. Herbs both enhance and contribute to the success of acupuncture treatments no matter what health goals are being worked on. Just like Acupuncture, balance is the intention of Herbal Medicine.
An herbal formula is comprised of several herbs. Together these herbs work to bring the body back into balance. An herbal formula is designed or modified to fit the needs of an individual.
Herbs can be taken in the form of tea pills, tinctures or teas.
Will I become dependent on Acupuncture Treatment to assist in my health problems?
Acupuncture treatment looks to treat the root cause of your problem not just a symptom. In this way, the problem can be addressed at the source. The body prefers to function optimally; acupuncture creates the space for the body to realign with its natural state (Resources).
Sometimes because of stress, lifestyle etc the body may slip back into bad habits. It is best to do treatments on first feeling of any imbalance, or just feeling “off”. You’ll know its time for a tune up when you notice negative changes in digestion, sleep, energy, mood, immunity, etc.
It’s easier to balance the body with less sessions when we don’t wait for the problem to become serious, much the same way as you would change the oil in your car to prevent a major problem with your transmission.
